We know that when a loved one is near the end of life it can be a stressful time for everyone involved. Total Care for U nurses, personal support workers and therapists all have had additional training in palliative care so that they are able to support patients and families through this difficult journey.
There are many parts of the health care system and many health care professionals that provide care for the patient at end of life. Total Care for U staff work closely with all the health care services so that patients receive coordinated and seamless palliative care from a coordinated team.
The experience of patients who are dying varies greatly. Our nurses take part in additional training in how to help patients manage specific symptoms, whether that be pain, fatigue or other issues.
Our goal is always to assist patients to feel comfortable so that they can continue to experience quality of life.
Many patients and families have specific wishes or preferences that they express to our staff. Perhaps the patient prefers to stay in a lazyboy chair by the living room window rather than in their bed; sometimes the patient prefers to spend their final days in a hospice rather than at home. Total Care for U staff spend time talking to patients and their families to understand their goals and then, in collaboration with the health care team, provide care that ensures the patients and families’ needs are met.
If you would like to work with Total Care for U staff to provide palliative care, please see our Careers page. If you are looking to arrange palliative care services in your home please see our Contact Us page and call the nearest office; we are always glad to talk to patients and their families to discuss what services best meet your needs.
